Chobits Anime
So I just finished watching Chobits after a long time of delay, I remember being recommended this anime from a female 'anime friend' in my younger years and, her being (kind of crazy) mostly into basic romantic stuff, I decided there was other more interesting anime to dedicate my time to. So it was put on the back burner.
A decade later when I'm married, my wife convinces me to start watching it. From the first 60 odd seconds I could tell it was going to be a peculiar and funny ride. With 26 episodes it didn't take that long. Mostly watching an episode when we had dinner or as the last few eps came closer, when ever we had the chance.
It is the story of a guy named Motosuwa Hideki that moves to the city from his farm to attend prep-school so he has a better shot at entering university (original plan was to go to university but was refused entrance in the first 30 seconds of the beginning ep).
He comes to find that the city is fully of 'Persocons' that are modern day personal computers, in the form of humans, ie. robots. Instead of carrying around your laptop to do things with, the people in the city now have a new companion or slave to do as they will with. (Yea, it touches on some lewd subjects). Hideki takes residence in a small-ish apartment building and attends prep-school with the his neighbour. Hideki one night finds a female persocon in the garbage just around the corner from his apartment and brings her home to keep, which he finds a much more attractive option than outright buying a persocon who obviously have a heavy price tag.
What ensues is a story about Chii's origins, the purpose of persocons, individual as well societal views on human and robot interactions and as is made clear from the moment he gets Chii, an obvious romance between a human and a robot and the problems that could lie therein.
This anime IS a romantic/comedy and therefore has a lot of small/cute or romantic humour. This is a genre I am still familiarizing myself with (other titles i have seen include 'The Familiar Zero', 'Lovely Complex' and 'Itazura na Kiss') but am enjoying the casual light atmosphere of such titles. Familiar Zero has a lot more action, Lovely Complex has a lot more comedy and Itazura na Kiss is just a normal happy story.
This as well as other romantic comedies I would definitely recommend watching as a couple with your partner. For two blokes to sit down and have a marathon of this would be rather disturbing but as for girls/women, cut sick, enjoy, its your type of thing!
All up I give it an 8 out of 10 on the 'Good' scale!
